Activities

There are many other attractions at Port MacDonnell and surrounding areas.  If someone travelling with you may not take to the water there are other activities for them to do. For general information about Port MacDonnell (including local businesses) visit the website www.portmacdonnell.sa.au

Visitor Information Centre

Our recently built information centre also includes the local library and gallery. Well worth a visit.

Surfing and Diving

There is great sandbar and reef surfing along the coast and only within a few minutes drive from Port MacDonnell. Cave and sea diving is also popular and attracts experienced divers from afar.

Port MacDonnell Foreshore

The general foreshore of Port MacDonnell is picturesque with the entire esplanade looking out to sea.  A walk will take you past beaches, a park where kites are regularly flown, playgrounds, a stroll up the jetty, breakwater where the rock lobster fishing fleet is moored, boat ramp, skate park, lighthouse and up to the cliffs with beautiful views (and more beaches).  Take the time to enjoy this walk.

Mount Schank

One of Australia’s youngest dormant volcanoes is located just a short drive north from Port MacDonnell. It is a great hike to the top and well worth the effort to enjoy the amazing views.

Little Blue Lake

Just down the road from Mount Schank is the Little Blue Lake and unlike Mount Gambier’s renowned Blue Lake, you can swim in the perfectly clear waters.  Please note there are no toilet facilities available (and you may need a wetsuit in colder weather).

Skate Park / Playgrounds

For the young (or young at heart) there are playgrounds and a skate park located along the foreshore of Port MacDonnell with BBQ areas and toilet facilities available.
